Check-ups
First check-up
As soon as you find out you are pregnant you can contact us. You don’t need to consult your general practitioner first and you don’t need a referral.

- If you had previous pregnancies and/or deliveries we will ask about the process and outcome
- We inform you about the possibility of prenatal screening
- We measure your weight and bloodpressure
- We give you forms to do the first bloodtest
- We give you (general) advice about nutrition, vitamins, weight gain and exercise
- We will explain to you how the Dutch midwifery system works and what you may expect from us
Following check-ups
During the following check up (15 minutes):
- We want to know how you feel
- We ask about the movements of the baby
- We measure your weight and bloodpressure
- We examine your belly to determine the growth and the position of the baby
- We listen to the heartbeat of the baby
- If necessary we give you forms voor additional bloodtesting
- We answer the questions you may have
Other important things we will inform you about along the way are:
- Maternity care

Good to know…..
At first the period in between the check-ups is 4 to 5 weeks. It slowly increases and during the last month you will visit us weekly.
If you think the period between the check-ups is too long, you can always call and make an appointment to listen to the heartbeat of the baby.
A couple of weeks before your due date we will schedule a longer appointment so we can inform you about labour and when to call us.
If you think you need more time to discuss your questions or worries, please let us know in advance, so we can schedule a longer appointment. We are happy to answer all your questions by taking more time for you.
